Sir Mark Grundy Biography 2015 Sir Mark Grundy became Head Teacher of Shireland Collegiate Academy in 1997. The Academy is in the West Midlands, UK and serves one of the most deprived wards in the country with over 65 different languages spoken, 38.2% of students have eligibility for free school meals, 18% have live safeguarding issues and 22% have Special Educational Needs. The school became one of the first language colleges in the country and became one of the leading schools in the use of E-learning solutions. Sir Mark has always been a strong advocate of the benefit of technology to support school improvement and in 2006 was knighted for his services to Education and Technology after advising the Government on harnessing technology in education in the UK. For the last two years he has been an advisor to the Midlands Regional School Commissioner. In 2007 Shireland became an Academy and has seen the independence that Academy status brings hugely benefit the staff, students and families over the last six years. Sir Mark has led two schools to be judged Outstanding by Ofsted, and in March 2013, Shireland was judged for a third time to be an Outstanding and “Exceptional” Academy.
